My friend suffers from bipolar disorder. They were on Medicaid to help with the medications for awhile, now their condition has improved and Medicaid has notified them that they are losing their coverage because they are fucntioning again, even though they have a chronic condition and no way to pay for their medicine, so they'll just go back to where they were before when Medicaid stops. My friend is in school and will graduate by December and hopes to have a job and insurance then. They are appealing Medicaid's decision, but they don't have much hope. They have also applied for prescription assistance. We're both from Indiana. Does anyone know what other options my friend might have in order to get help with their medicines? Thanks.

One option is to visit your local hospital. First, make sure that they have a behavioral health ward. Then, find out if they offer charity care. They need proof that your friend is either unemployed, without insurance, or both. They cover anywhere from a percentage to all of the cost of medication and doctor visits. Once approved, you receive a charity care card, and you are covered for a full year. In your friend's case it sounds to me like they would get full coverage for their medications, and doctor's visits, that's psychiatric and medical.
I agree that this is the only so called civilized country w/o universal health care is shameful. Back to question can this, "student", go onto parents insurance? Next, if he presents in emergency room with symptoms I believe they will give out scripts rather than have too, (more $), hospitalize him in psyche ward. Last, if he has a doctor they often have samples they will give to uninsured. Good Luck and you feel so compelled report this story to local politicians.
How about a part time job? How about help from their family?
